I like the name, Gifty....her actual name is Grace Valentine, first time someone asked me for an autograph, not that I have suddenly become famous, but she is a 14 year old girl who is one of the latest entrants to the SOS village where I went today evening.
It is always so much of energy, when kids are around, this is a real gem of a place, the kids are kept so well, they are so good natured. I used my elementary drawing skills which I learnt after getting always punished and cursed in my primary school years, those days I always used to hate my drawing teacher, but today I acknowledge that he gave me something, which the kids were interested to learn!
We were nine of us, using the oppurtunity of the dawn of the new year to go and interact with these young souls, and as usual I come back revived, young at heart, pure in thoughts from this beautiful S.O.S village, although a tad sad for what destiny has done to these children, but happy that there are kind souls on this planet earth, who are there to take care of them still.
It isn't complete with the summation of the place and how beautifully the kids are looked after, thank you Raina for capturing the complete essence of it, and putting it in the comments section, without that part this blog post is not complete :)!

Whenever I have been to such places in the past, I have come back quite glum and lost. But this was different! The place was cheerful, the inmates well looked after, and chirpy, the resources available to them great. All in all, a model 'institution' in terms of how the less fortunate ones can be given a fair chance to a normal living. The idea of dividing children into families and giving them a house and a 'mother' to look after them was superb. It seemed to have given the children great sense of belonging to their homes and families. I specially loved the idea of collages and albums of special occasions like children's birthdays, their first days to school etc as part of memoirs. Kudos to the founders!
The next thing for us to do of course is to try and make Mary Grace's 15th birthday special and memorable for her :)
